When you’re picking out infrared lamps for the bathroom, it’s tempting to just go for the biggest wattage you can find. But here’s the thing: more isn’t always better. If you go overboard, you’re just wasting electricity and turning your bathroom into a sauna. Go too low, and you’re still shivering while you dry off. It’s all about finding that sweet spot.
Let’s talk size
Your bathroom’s footprint tells you exactly what you need. If you’ve got a tiny powder room—you know, the kind where you can almost touch both walls at once—something small like 250W to 400W is plenty. Those little spaces warm up in a heartbeat. For a standard family bathroom, you’ll want to bump that up to 600W or 800W. That keeps things feeling cozy without any weird cold patches. Then you have the big master baths or rooms with those soaring ceilings. In those cases, you’re looking at 1000W+ or maybe a few smaller lamps spread out. The trick is remembering that infrared doesn’t really “heat the air.” It heats stuff. It’s hitting you and your cold tile floors directly, which is why it feels so good the second you step under it.
Where you put it matters
Placement is everything. Think about it: a 600W lamp feels great if it’s 2 meters above your head. But if you mount it way up at 2.5 meters? You’re going to feel a lot less of that warmth.
