That’s where shortwave infrared (IR) lamps come in. Unlike those slow convection ovens that just blow hot air around, IR goes straight into the glass. It’s fast. Really fast. Dealing with the Power Grid Headache
Here is the thing: power grids are a nightmare. If you plug a 110V lamp into a 480V industrial line, you aren’t getting heat—you’re getting a blown lamp and a very bad day. We don’t want you messing around with bulky, heavy transformers that take up half your workbench and eventually break. Instead, we just build the lamps to match whatever you’ve already got on your shop floor. Why Quartz and Gold Matter
Inside these lamps, we use high-purity quartz to hold the tungsten filaments. Quartz is the only way to go because it can take the brutal heat without warping or giving up. We lean toward shortwave emitters because they pack the most punch. But you can also tweak how that heat moves. For instance, we can add a gold-coated reflector. This pushes the heat exactly where you want it—onto the glass—instead of letting it soak into the machine chassis and heat up your whole room.
The Trade-off: Heat vs. Air
Now, there is a catch. When you crank up a high-voltage array, you get a massive spike in heat density. It gets your glass to working temperature in a flash, but it puts your cooling fans to the test.
